What did Esau value more than his birthright?
Esau valued a bowl of bean soup more than his birthright. Hungry, he smelled the soup cooking and asked Jacob for it; Jacob demanded the birthright in exchange. Esau saw no worth in the birthright, preferring immediate food because he was destitute of faith.
Les explains that Esau was destitute of faith, so he saw nothing of worth in the birthright; it was something to be appropriated by faith. When he came in hungry and smelled the bean soup cooking, he asked Jacob for a bowl. Jacob demanded the birthright in exchange, and Esau agreed, preferring the soup. Les teaches that Esau's lack of faith and his immoral character go hand in hand.
