What happens when a believer draws on the Holy Spirit instead of forcing law-keeping?
By faith, a believer draws on the Holy Spirit—the Pneuma Hagion, the power from on high—rather than forcing law-keeping. This enables him to confront the old nature, live victoriously in the flesh, and let the Spirit run the race naturally, without self-effort as a law keeper.
Les explains that the Holy Spirit is the person, while the Pneuma Hagion is the power from on high exercised through that person. He says we cannot confront the old nature or live victoriously in the flesh without this power. By faith the believer takes it and can say, “Lord, I have the Holy Spirit; I can draw on Him, and I don’t have to force myself to be a law keeper.” It then simply comes naturally to let the Spirit run the race for us. This fits with Romans 8 and Galatians 5, where those after the flesh mind the things of the flesh, while the believer relies on the Spirit’s power.
