What was the weakness of the law?
The law’s weakness was not in its content, for it was holy and perfect, but in its inability to empower anyone to obey it. It had no power within itself to help a mortal law-keeper keep its demands, so people could not fulfill it in the flesh.
Les explains that the law is perfect and holy, but man in the flesh, without the power of the Holy Spirit, could not begin to keep it. The law had no power to impart to man to keep it, and it had no power to help the law keeper keep the law. That was its weakness, making it weak, beggarly, and a yoke Israel chafed under. Under grace, believers have something far better: the righteousness of the law can be fulfilled in us by the power of the Holy Spirit.
