Why could the law not do what it was supposed to?

The law could not accomplish its intended purpose because it was weak through the flesh. Although the Mosaic Law, the Ten Commandments, was perfect from God’s viewpoint, from the human standpoint it was weak and a yoke. Fallen flesh could not fulfill it, so God condemned sin in the flesh by sending His Son.

Les explains that when Paul comes back to the Mosaic Law, the Ten Commandments, he says what the law could not do was because it was weak through the flesh. From God’s viewpoint the law was perfect, the very mind of God expressed for mankind’s benefit and good. But from the human standpoint it was weak and a yoke. We can’t do it, but God can. God sent His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, to take care of old Adam, and condemned old Adam in the flesh, so that the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled. Les warns against confusing law and grace.
