Les Feldick Bible Study

What happens when you walk in the Spirit?

When a believer walks in the Spirit—under the Holy Spirit's power and control—the lusts of the flesh are not fulfilled. The Spirit never directs someone to steal, commit adultery, or gossip. Though the old Adamic nature still lurks, those sinful impulses will not come to the fore.

Les teaches that "walk in the Spirit" refers to the Holy Spirit, indicated by the capital S. To walk in the Spirit is to walk in the power and control of the Holy Spirit, and the result is that you will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh. He illustrates this by saying that when the Holy Spirit is operating, a believer is not going to go out and steal. The Holy Spirit will never tell a believer to steal, commit adultery, or gossip. Even though the old Adamic nature remains, still lurking in the background, when the Holy Spirit is in control those things will not come to the fore. Paul then moves to verse 17, where "flesh" refers to old Adam, the old Adamic nature, which lusteth, desireth, or, for clarity, "wareth."

Galatians 5:16

This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
