Why does love become the motivating power that fulfills the law under grace?

Under grace, the Holy Spirit empowers believers, and love becomes the whole motivating power behind everything they do. When love operates, the Ten Commandments' prohibitions automatically fall away; believers do not need temple worship, priesthood, sacrifices, or constant drilling to fulfill the law.

Les explains that Paul is writing to believers about everyday practicality, not pie-in-the-sky ideas. The key is grace: once a person steps under the light of grace and the Holy Spirit empowers them, love becomes the whole motivating power behind everything they do, and then they automatically fulfill the Law. Under that arrangement, temple worship, a priesthood, animal sacrifices, and the Ten Commandments constantly drilled in are no longer necessary. Les illustrates this by asking whether you can steal from somebody you love, bear false witness or gossip about someone you love, or covet what a loved one owns. The answer is no. Going through the whole gamut of the Ten Commandments, when love is operating, they all automatically fall away and no longer have to be taught and drilled.
