What happened after Hagar conceived Ishmael?

After Hagar conceived Ishmael, she bore him, then taunted Sarai about being with child. Sarai drove her into the desert, but the Lord sent her back. Later, when Isaac was five and weaned, Ishmael, about eighteen, mocked and teased him, showing the same rebellious attitude.

Les teaches that after Hagar conceived Ishmael, she gave birth to him, and then she taunted Sarai because she was now with child. Sarai finally kicked Hagar out and sent her into the desert, whereupon the Lord sent her back. Les emphasizes that God sent her back because eighteen years later she would go back out into that same desert, and God always has the big picture in mind. God does not look merely at the here and now; He can leap thousands of years as though it were a day. Les says this whole scenario was programmed by God so Paul could use it as a tremendous lesson for believers today. Later, when Isaac was five years old and weaned, Ishmael was about eighteen, and that same attitude of rebellion and taunt came in. Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, Ishmael, whom he had born unto Abraham, mocking—simply teasing the little five-year-old to death.
