What were the Galatians worshipping before they knew God?
Before they knew God, the Galatians were steeped in pagan darkness and worshipped pagan gods. By nature these were not gods at all, but merely pieces of wood or stone. They did service to these non-gods, which had no genuine divine nature.
Les teaches that before their conversion, the Galatians were steeped in pagan darkness. They worshipped pagan gods that, when everything is boiled down, were not gods at all—nothing but a piece of wood or stone. They did service to these non-gods. This was the background out of which Paul's converts came, and they immediately came under persecution for their faith.
Howbeit then, when ye knew not God, ye did service unto them which by nature are no gods.
