Why has God justified the believer freely?

God has justified the believer freely because Christ paid the redemption price with His own blood. The cross of Calvary is where He paid that price for every human being's sin, and His blood is the price of redemption. Without the shedding of blood there is no remission, and that price is appropriated by faith.

Les explains that redemption means God pays the price to bring people back to Himself. Israel's redemption from Egypt was more symbolic, but for the whole world Christ paid the price with His own blood. Since the human race fell under Satan's control when Adam sinned, Christ paid the redemption price for all. That payment is applied freely to the believer because of the price He paid, though it cannot be appropriated until faith comes into the picture. Romans 3:25 says God set forth Christ as a propitiation through faith in His blood. The blood is the price of redemption, and without the shedding of blood there is no remission. Had Christ not shed His blood, the redemption price would never have been paid.
