Why did women come under condemnation when Adam sinned?

The woman came under condemnation because Eve was in Adam, and when Adam sinned, the female of the species came under the same condemnation as the man. This points to the unity of Eve and Adam in the Genesis account, so the judgment fell on both, not on the woman separately.

Les teaches that the emphasis from Genesis is that Eve was in Adam. Therefore, when Adam sinned, the female of the species came under condemnation just as much as the man. He connects this to the broader point that all human history has to fall back on what took place in Genesis. The passage then moves to a man leaving his father and mother, cleaving to his wife, and the two becoming one flesh. Les laments that this concept has been lost and glossed over, and he notes the word “cleave” as important to understanding what God originally intended.
