Can anyone be saved or justified by doing the deeds of the Law?

No. Scripture declares that by the deeds of the Law shall no flesh be saved or justified in His sight, because the Law was given for one purpose only — to show mankind how far they fall short of God's standard and to give the knowledge of sin, not righteousness.

Les explains that Israel alone was put under the Law, but the convicting power of it did not stop with Israel; it went out to the whole human race, so that every mouth may be stopped and all the world, not just Israel, is made guilty before God. That is the exact opposite of what most people think the Law does. Most people think the Law was given to help people do right and do good and do the best they could, expecting God to wink and let them in, but that is not the purpose of the Law. It was given for one purpose alone: to show mankind how far they fell short of God's standard, because no man has ever lived who could keep the Ten Commandments — it is impossible. Therefore, since all the world has become guilty by the giving of the Law, by the deeds of the Law shall no flesh, not one human being, be saved or justified in His sight, for by the Law comes only the knowledge of sin. Les hopes his classes learn that the Law can do nothing but convict a person of their utter sinfulness, and that is why it was added.

Romans 3:20

Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

Why can't a person be justified by the deeds of the law?

Doing the law's deeds cannot justify anyone in God's sight because the law gives knowledge of sin, not knowledge of salvation or a way to heaven.
