Did the Law take away sin or only reveal it?
The Law did not take away sin. It was added because of sin and merely showed people their sin. Paul writes in Romans 3:19-20 that whatever the Law says, it says to those under the Law, identifying Israel, so the Law reveals sin rather than removes it.
Les teaches that after Abram received the promises, God gave the Law because man had to understand right and wrong; man did not seem to get it. The Law was laid down punctually, beginning with “Thou shalt have no other gods before me,” which confronted what took place at Babel, the beginning of false worships. Galatians shows the Law was added because of sin; it did not take sin away from people, it merely showed them their sin. Romans 3:19-20 adds that the Law speaks to those who are under it—Israel.
Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.
