When do the 430 years in the Bible begin and end?

The 430 years begin when Abram left Haran and came down into Canaan at age seventy-five, after Terah died, and end when Moses led the children out in the Exodus, totaling 430 years. This is distinct from the 400 years, which begins when Isaac is five and Ishmael is sent away.

Les explains the chronology: Abram left Ur and migrated to Haran in Syria, staying until Terah died. Then Abram, Lot, and Sarai moved down into Canaan, and Abram was seventy-five. The 430 years are measured from that departure from Haran and entry into Canaan until Moses led the children out in the Exodus. Les also notes that the 400 years run from when Isaac was five and Ishmael was sent into the wilderness until Moses led the children out, so there is no contradiction—just a different benchmark of time.
