How long after God's promise to Abram did he still have no child?

Scripture indicates that twenty-five years passed after God's promise to Abram, and he still had no child. For a full twenty-five years nothing happened, and no child was born. The promised nation had not yet begun through a son. He remained childless.

Les explains that Abram left Ur and migrated up to Haran in Syria, where they stopped until Terah died. After Terah died, Abram, Lot, and Sarai moved down into Canaan. When Abram left Haran, he was seventy-five. By then, twenty-five years had passed since God's promise to make of him a nation, and still nothing had happened—no child. The chronology also shows the 430 years beginning when Abram left Haran for Canaan until Moses led the Exodus, while the 400 years run from Isaac at five when Ishmael was sent away. Les says this is not a contradiction but a benchmark of time.
