How did the blessing of Abraham come to the Gentiles, and what did Christ become to make that happen?

The blessing of Abraham came to the Gentiles through Jesus Christ, not through the salvation of Israel. To make that possible, Christ became the curse, hung on a stake as it were, like Deuteronomy's wayward rebel son, so salvation by faith could reach the whole human race.

Les explains that Christ came and presented Himself as the King of Israel, a valid offer, but Israel rejected it. That rejection fulfilled the eternal purposes: salvation went to the whole human race without Israel, without the Law, without the Temple, and without proselyting. It became salvation by faith, and faith alone. Les then points back to Galatians 3:14: Christ became the curse, hung on a stake as it were, like Deuteronomy's wayward rebel son, all so that the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles, not through Israel's salvation, but through Jesus Christ.

Galatians 3:14

That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
