Why did Abraham not understand the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ and His atoning blood?

Abraham had no concept of Christ's death, burial, resurrection, and atoning blood because God did not expect them to die. The revelation Abraham received included resurrection and Israel's coming redemption, but it did not connect those truths to a dying Messiah or the shedding of atoning blood.

Les explains that Abraham and the patriarchs did have the concept of resurrection and of Israel coming into a place of redemption. However, they could not associate that with a death, burial, and resurrection, or with the shedding of the atoning blood of Christ. They had no concept of that, because God did not expect them to die. Later, those who come into a right relationship by faith plus nothing are blessed with Abraham, the man of faith. Abraham was the friend of God, and believers are also friends of God, no longer enemies, because of faith in what He has said, which concerns what He accomplished in the work of the cross.
