Why are believers called friends of God instead of enemies?
Believers are called friends of God because they have entered a right relationship with Him through faith plus nothing, not works. Through faith in what God has said and accomplished in the work of the cross, they are blessed with Abraham, the man of faith, and are no longer enemies.
Les teaches that Abraham was the friend of God, and those who come into a right relationship by the faith way plus nothing are blessed with Abraham. Believers likewise are friends of God, not enemies, because of their faith in what God has said. What God has said concerns what He accomplished in the work of the cross. This friendship is contrasted with being under the curse through the works of the law.
