Where does Paul's teaching that we must believe God as Abraham did send us in Scripture?
This doctrine sends the reader first to Romans chapter 4, then all the way back to Genesis. That path shows how Scripture builds through progressive revelation, comparing Scripture with Scripture, tracing the Old Testament foundation that Paul's teaching rests upon.
Les explains that believing in God is what the multitudes do, but believing God is faith—taking Him at His Word, which is what He is looking for. Therefore, when Paul in Galatians says we are to believe God as Abraham did, that statement sends us back first to Romans chapter 4, and then all the way back to Genesis to see how all of this has been building. Les emphasizes that the Bible is a progressive revelation: what was built in the Old Testament has not been thrown aside but built upon. He then begins Romans chapter 4 at verse 1 to compare Scripture with Scripture.
What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found?
