What does Galatians 5:1 tell believers to do?
Galatians 5:1 admonishes believers to stand fast and unmovable in the liberty by which Christ has made them free, and not to be entangled again with a yoke of bondage. The law was a legal yoke of bondage, but believers have liberty and have been set free.
Les explains that Galatians 5:1 is an admonition we never have to give up: stand fast, unmovable in the liberty, the freedom, wherewith Christ hath made us free. He emphasizes that this means believers are not under bondage, but have liberty and have been set free. The verse further says, be not entangled again with that yoke of bondage. Les identifies that yoke as the Law, calling it a legal yoke of bondage. He connects this to Judaism, whose roots were the pure Mosaic and Levitical Law from Moses' time.
Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.
