Where did the Jewish believers flee when Saul persecuted the church in Jerusalem?
Jewish believers fled Jerusalem because of Saul's persecution and other religious persecutions, migrating up to the area of Galilee. Some evidently went as far as Damascus, where archaeologists have identified a community of Jews who had been followers of Christ.
Les explains that Saul had made so much headway in Jerusalem and Judea that he thought he had cleaned house, leaving nothing to do. So he requested to go to Damascus, where some of these people still were. Les notes that Jewish believers had to flee Jerusalem for fear of Saul's and other religious persecutions, and many migrated up to the area of Galilee; some evidently went as far as Damascus. Archaeologists have found a community identifying them as Jews who had been followers of Christ. Les also points out that Saul was a religious zealot with no mercy, putting these Jewish believers to death, and was motivated by money, profiting in the Jews' religion. Les teaches that religions' headquarters have tremendous wealth from the lower levels, and Judaism was no different.
