Why did God call Israel 'thy people' instead of 'My people' in Daniel?

God called Israel 'thy people' in Daniel because the nation had degenerated so far from its love for Jehovah that He was no longer truly claiming them as His own. They had become Daniel's people and Moses' people rather than 'My people,' a designation He used at the beginning.

Les explains that this is like when God addressed the Galatian churches as 'the churches of Galatia' instead of 'the church of God' or 'the saints in Christ.' The same kind of distance appears in Daniel: God did not call Israel 'My people' because they had fallen so far from their love for Jehovah that He was not really claiming them. They were Daniel's people, they were Moses' people, but He did not say 'My people' as He did at the beginning.
