What was happening to the Galatian churches when Paul wrote to them?

When Paul wrote to the Galatian churches, they were being bombarded with false teaching that urged them to go back under the Law. They were giving in to this error, turning from the pure grace of God, so Paul wrote Galatians to correct that false teaching and bring them back to grace.

Les explains that Paul was probably back at Corinth around 60 A.D., about twenty years after he began his ministry to the Gentiles, when he received word that the little congregations in central Turkey—Galatia—were being bombarded to go back under the Law. So the book of Galatians was written to correct that false teaching and to bring them back under the pure grace of God. Les notes this message is just as appropriate for the world today, even church people. Because the Galatians were giving in to false teaching, Paul also leaves an important part out of his address to them in verse 2.
