What changed in God's modus operandi when Saul met Jesus on the Damascus road?

At Saul’s Damascus road encounter, the Sovereign God’s modus operandi changed. The Lord declared Saul a chosen vessel to bear His name before Gentiles, kings, and the children of Israel, and to suffer greatly for His name’s sake. This marked a tremendous shift in how God would work through him.

Les explains that Saul and Israel’s religious leaders had used their influence to pursue renegade Jews who followed Jesus, imprisoning and putting them to death. But after Saul of Tarsus met the Lord on the Damascus road, Les points to a tremendous change in the modus operandi of the Sovereign God. The Lord said, “Go thy way, for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel. For I will show him how great things he must suffer for my name’s sake.”
