What were the Judaizers trying to get the Galatian assemblies to do?

The Judaizers were pressuring the Galatian assemblies to return to the Law and add legal requirements to Paul's gospel. They sought to pervert the message of grace by bringing believers back under Law instead of grace. The letter therefore warned them not to add anything to the gospel.

Les teaches that the Galatian assemblies were being bombarded by the Judaizers to come back under the Law. He explains that Paul wrote Galatians under intense duress, even laboriously printing it in large block letters because of poor eyesight, so the letter could reach those congregations before it was too late. The constant warning in the six chapters is that believers are not under Law but under Grace, and they should not let anyone pervert the gospel by adding something to it. Les applies this today, noting we face the same kind of bombardment, because people naturally want to do something to merit favor with God, but God says either you believe He has finished it or it will profit you nothing.
