What is the power of the Gospel?

The power of the Gospel is the preaching of Christ crucified, buried, and risen from the dead. Though it cannot be fully understood, God in His own inimitable way uses that message to bring people to a knowledge of the truth, convicting them and spreading their faith abroad.

Les teaches that the power of the Gospel is not in human cleverness or a Madison Avenue approach, but in the simple preaching of Christ crucified, buried, and risen from the dead. Paul experienced conviction everywhere he went when he preached that message. Even though it cannot be understood, God in His own inimitable way brings people to a knowledge of the truth. The Thessalonians, who had been just as pagan as anyone else, demonstrated this: their faith to God was spread abroad, so much so that others did not need to speak anything. As soon as Paul saw them converted out of paganism, they shared it wherever they went, and their mouths could not be shut.
