What does Paul say he has done for the church in 2 Corinthians 11:2?
Paul says he has espoused the church to one husband and is jealous over them with a godly jealousy. His aim is to present them as a chaste, pure virgin to Christ. He is writing to members of the Body of Christ.
Les explains that Paul is jealous over the believers with a godly jealousy, and he reminds them that he is writing to Gentile believers, which includes Jews in the Age of Grace, members of the Body of Christ. Paul says he has espoused them to one husband so that he may present them as a chaste, or pure, virgin to Christ. Les connects this to the bride depicted in Revelation as clothed in linen, bright and white and clean, because of the concept of a virgin bride and purity. He also notes this goes back to the habit of cultures in days gone by, where parents would literally pair the children.
For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.
