What does Ephesians 5:27 say Christ does with the Church?

Ephesians 5:27 says Christ will present the Church—the Body of Christ—to Himself as a glorious church, not having spot, wrinkle, or any such thing. The context pictures this as a beautiful white-clad Bride, clean and without blemish. This reflects the groom-and-bride analogy.

Les explains that Ephesians 5 uses the husband-and-wife analogy: the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the Church, and He is the Savior of the body. Then verse 27 says He might present it—that is, the Body of Christ—to Himself a glorious church, not having spot, wrinkle, or any such thing. Les connects this to the beautiful white-clad Bride without a wrinkle, drawing the analogy between the physical wife and husband and Christ as the Head to the Body of Christ as the Bride. He notes that brides are attractive in wedding gowns, and this is the picture God is drawing: the Body of Christ as the Bride, white and clean, without wrinkle and without blemish.

Ephesians 5:27
