Was Paul naturally magnetic and charismatic in the way he drew people?

No. There was something about the Apostle that did not just automatically draw people to him like some charismatic men can. His authority and impact rested on his calling as the Apostle of the Risen Christ to the Gentiles, given by the Lord for edification, not on natural magnetic personality.

Les explains that Paul's background was as an abject persecutor, but he became the Apostle of the Risen Christ to the Gentiles. His authority was given by the Lord for edification, not for destruction. Les points out that there was something about the Apostle that did not just automatically draw people to him like some charismatic men can. Paul acknowledged rumors about him and his letters, noting that he did not want to seem as if he would terrify them with letters. Yet he had corrected abuses in his first letter, calling a spade a spade. So his influence was rooted in his apostolic calling and message, not in natural charisma.
