How should I view giving and God's response?
Giving should be done with the right attitude and by faith, not as a name-it-and-claim-it transaction. You cannot outgive God, but His response is not necessarily an immediate return in kind; it may be seen in spared expenses and the big picture, not in giving $100 to get $500 back.
Les teaches that giving is not a name-it-and-claim-it formula. He does not claim that giving $1,000 a year means God will pour back $3,000; the Bible does not teach that. If giving is done with the right attitude and by faith, you cannot outgive God. There is a fine line between faith and fantasy: faith can expect God to respond, but fantasy expects that giving a ministry $500 will bring back $50,000. God is able, but giving does not have to return immediately in kind. God may spare you expenses—an old car going another 50,000 miles, or few medical expenses—what Les calls the payback. Look at the big picture, not “if I give $100, will I get $500 back?” Verse 7 is the foundation for our giving.
