Are Old Testament commands to Israel still binding on Christians today?

No. The Old Testament commands given to Israel are not automatically binding on Christians today. For example, Scripture's instruction to bring animal sacrifices does not mean believers should buy a lamb now; we are not under that. Yet Paul's writings, even when he says he is not speaking by commandment, are inspired by the Holy Spirit.

Les explains that just because the Old Testament told Israel to do something, that does not mean it is still valid for us today. He uses animal sacrifice as the example: the Bible says to bring an animal sacrifice, but no one is going to buy a lamb, because we are not under that today. Les says this distinction carries all the way through and these things have to be shaken up. Then, turning to Paul, he notes that when Paul says he is not speaking by commandment, the Holy Spirit still prompted him to write, so it is in reality inspired Scripture. Paul also speaks of the grace of giving and points to the riches of Christ.
