Why were Paul and his companions comforted in 2 Corinthians 7:13?
Paul and his companions were comforted in the Corinthians' comfort because the situation had been squared away. Paul explains that as the Corinthians felt, he felt. They also rejoiced exceedingly for the joy of Titus, because Titus's spirit was refreshed by the Corinthians' response.
Les explains that Paul had dealt with the sin severely, telling them to turn the man over to the power of Satan so his flesh could be touched unless he repented and got right with God. God hates sin and will not wink at it, even though it has been paid for and forgiven because of His death on the cross. Because everything got squared away, Paul and his companions were comforted in the Corinthians' comfort. Paul says, As you feel, I feel. They rejoiced more for the joy of Titus, whom Paul loved and respected, because Titus's spirit was refreshed by the Corinthians. Even Titus had his whole spiritual life enhanced by the congregation's reaction toward the adulterous individual. Their obedient, fearful, trembling reception of him increased Titus's inward affection toward them.
Therefore we were comforted in your comfort: yea, and exceedingly the more joyed we for the joy of Titus, because his spirit was refreshed by you all.
