Why did Titus's affection toward the Corinthians increase?
Titus’s affection grew because he remembered their obedience and the reverent way they received him with fear and trembling. Their response to the sinning member refreshed his spirit and enhanced his spiritual life, causing his inward affection toward the Corinthians to become more abundant.
Les explains that Paul had a lot of love and respect for Titus, and Paul rejoiced exceedingly for the joy of Titus. Titus’s spirit was refreshed by the Corinthians, and even his whole spiritual life was enhanced because of the congregation’s reaction toward the adulterous individual. Paul says Titus’s inward affection became more abundant toward them as he remembered the obedience of them all and how with fear and trembling they received him. This fit Paul’s statement, “As you feel, I feel,” and the comfort they shared.
And his inward affection is more abundant toward you, whilst he remembereth the obedience of you all, how with fear and trembling ye received him.
