What thrilled Paul more than seeing Titus?

Paul was glad to see Titus, but what thrilled him more was Titus's report from Corinth: the Corinthians still loved him and held him in high esteem. Their affection and commendation, despite his earlier severe letter, caused him to rejoice all the more.

Les teaches that Titus had been down at Corinth while Paul was over at Ephesus. Paul had written a letter in which he had to dress the Corinthians down severely, and he had heard things from the Corinthian congregation that were against him and condemning him. Then Titus came with nothing but good things the Corinthians were saying about Paul. Paul was tickled to death to see Titus, but what thrilled him more was the report that the Corinthian people still loved him and still held him in high esteem, so he rejoiced all the more. Les points out how human Paul was, illustrating that everyone likes a word of compliment when a job is well done. Even though Paul had made them sorry with his first letter, he did not regret it, because it had to be done.
