Les Feldick Bible Study

Why did the people accuse Jesus of deceiving them when he was the truth?

They accused Him because of unchanged human nature, not because His claim was false. In John 7, some said He was good, but others said He deceived the people, even though He was truth personified. By John 8 they doubted His words, said He had a demon, and scorned Him.

Les teaches that Jesus faced the same kind of opposition that Paul and believers face today, because human nature has not changed one iota. In John 7:10-12, the Jews sought Jesus at the feast and murmured about Him. Some said He was a good man, while others said He deceived the people. Les emphasizes that Jesus was truth personified, yet they accused Him of being deceptive. Then in John 8:52-57, the Jews said He had a demon, argued about Abraham and the prophets, asked whom He made Himself, and doubted everything He said. Their accusations came out of the same unchanged human nature.

John 7:10

But when his brethren were gone up, then went he also up unto the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret.
