Why is God in Christ reconciling the world to Himself?

The Creator God was in Christ, reconciling the world to Himself, because only He could pay the sin debt of every human being. He took on flesh and went to the cross to bring the world back after it was lost in Adam, not imputing trespasses until death.

Les teaches that God was in Christ as He hung on that cross, and it was the Creator of the universe who hung there. He explains that Jesus of Calvary was the same God of Genesis 1:1 who called everything into being, and He had to be, or He could never have tasted death for every man or paid the sin debt of every human being. Les also recounts a man who asked who Jesus Christ is, and his answer was that He is the Creator of the universe, the God of creation who took on flesh and went the way of the cross. Paul tells us God was in Christ reconciling, bringing the world back to Himself after He lost it in Adam, not imputing their trespasses unto them. Les says that means until a lost person dies, his sins are not being held against him.

2 Corinthians 5:19

To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
