Does becoming a new creation make a person sinless?
No. The new creation produces changed appetites, lifestyle, behavior, and attitude because the believer is a new person, but it does not give a halo or make anyone sinless. It is the result of a creative work of God, giving a whole new concept in life.
Les teaches that every believer experiences a change of appetites, lifestyle, behavior, and attitude because they are a new person, different from what they were. However, he explains that this does not give a halo or make a person sinless. Instead, the believer is the result of a creative work of a Creator God and has a whole new concept in life. Les illustrates this with a young man his own age who spent every Saturday night in the tavern and bar. When the man asked why he never saw Les in the bar on Saturday night, Les replied, for the same reason he did not see the man in church on Sunday morning. Their lifestyles and appetites were totally different, as different as daylight and dark. Les therefore questions professing Christians who see nothing wrong with doing everything the world does. He insists there must be a change in attitude and behavior; if there is no change, he doubts anything happened. If the believer is the work of a creative act of God, old things have passed away—those old appetites—and everything becomes new and different. He looks for that change in lifestyle before saying someone has come to know the Lord or been born again.
