What realization did Saul have on the road to Damascus about Jehovah and Jesus?

On the Damascus road, Saul learned that the Jehovah he served and the Jesus he persecuted were one and the same. Addressing the heavenly voice as Lord—the term used for Jehovah—he heard the reply, I'm Jesus. This revelation stunned him and left him blind.

Les teaches from Acts chapter 9 that Saul's conversion account shows the impact of this realization. A light from heaven shone around him, he fell to the earth, and he heard a voice saying, 'Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?' Saul understood that the voice must be God speaking. In the Jewish vocabulary, the word Lord replaced Jehovah, so in his mind Saul was saying Jehovah while his lips said Lord. He therefore asked, 'Who art thou Jehovah?' and Jehovah answered, 'I'm Jesus.' Saul had been serving Jehovah and trying to stamp out Jesus, then suddenly realized they are one and the same. It blew his mind and blew him blind; he ended up blind.
