Does faith only get you saved, or does it guide the rest of the Christian life too?
Faith guides a person not only into salvation but all through the Christian experience. It begins by taking God at His Word about sin and salvation, then continues as the whole daily walk is prompted by faith in God. Believers recognize and deal with sin by believing what God says, not merely by human rules.
Les explains that faith is not limited to initial salvation; it is the one-word principle for recognizing and dealing with sin throughout the Christian life. He points to the exhortation to exhort one another daily while it is called today, lest any be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. Unless we believe what God says about certain activities or acts, we do not know that they are sin; but when God says it and we believe it, then we know what it is. Therefore the whole daily walk is prompted by faith in God. Romans 3:23 says all have sinned and come short of the glory of God, and Les calls that the first step in salvation—taking God at His Word concerning myself and concerning you. So faith guides us not only into salvation but all through our Christian experience, based on what the book says, not what someone else says. He notes that he does not have to condemn this or that, because as soon as people get into the book and see what it says by faith, they will take appropriate action.
