Why did Jesus tell Mary not to touch him after the resurrection?
Jesus told Mary not to touch Him because He had to ascend immediately to the Father. He was going into the very presence of God as the high priest after the order of Melchizedek, not Aaron, to complete His priestly work before the Father.
Les explains that early that Sunday morning, when Jesus would not let Mary touch Him, He still had to go immediately into the very presence of the Father. Jesus told Mary He was ascending to the Father, to her God. Les connects this to Hebrews 9:11, where Christ became a high priest of good things to come by a greater and more perfect tabernacle. This fits the earlier teaching that Christ is a high priest after the order of Melchizedek, not after Aaron, because Melchizedek was not a priest under the law or of the tribe of Levi, but a priest of all, covering the whole spectrum of the human race. Just as Moses was instructed by Jehovah on Mount Sinai and given a pattern of the tabernacle in heaven, so Christ had to enter the true heavenly presence to fulfill His high priestly role.
