According to Ephesians, how is the believer's daily cleansing accomplished?
Paul speaks of a daily cleansing that is not accomplished with a tub of water or a washcloth, but by the cleansing of the Word. Although believers have been washed, forgiven, and have salvation, their daily walk in a sin-filled world brings defilement, so they still need this ongoing cleansing.
Les teaches that the foot washing in John's Gospel illustrates this. Peter and the other disciples had been washed and had salvation, but because they were still in a sin-filled earth, their feet got dirty—they were being defiled in their daily walk. That was the whole lesson. Paul then speaks in Ephesians of a daily cleansing for the believer, not with a tub of water or a washcloth, but with the cleansing of the Word. Even though believers have been cleansed and forgiven, they still need that daily cleansing.
