What happened when the Samaritan woman came to the well and met Jesus?

When the Samaritan woman came to Jacob's well to draw water, she met Jesus, who had deliberately traveled through Samaria and sent His disciples into town. During that encounter she came to recognize Him as the Messiah, then ran into town and shared that news.

Les teaches that Jesus foreknew this meeting as He headed toward Galilee. Instead of circumventing Samaria as the good Jews did, Jesus insisted, “This time we go through Samaria.” At old Jacob’s well, He sent the disciples into town to buy food so they would not be around to cause controversy, since they were not supposed to talk to a Samaritan. Jesus sat down on the well and waited. The woman of Samaria came to draw water. From her side it seemed accidental, but it was not accidental—the Lord knew He was going to meet her. The result was that she came to recognize Him as the Messiah, ran into town, and shared.

John 4:7

There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink.

John 4:25

The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.
