Where was the laver of cleansing placed in the tabernacle layout?

The laver of cleansing stood outside the tabernacle tent, between it and the brazen altar where sacrifices were burned. It was made of brass, filled with water, and the priest stopped there to wash before beginning his sacrifices at the altar.

Les explains that the laver of cleansing was positioned out between the actual tabernacle tent and the brazen altar where they burned the sacrifices. When the priest came in to begin his sacrifices at the brazen altar, he had to stop at the laver of cleansing. It was filled with water and was made of brass, described as looking-glass. The same practical idea appears when someone gets dirty and checks up with a mirror.
