How did God provide for the poor saints at Jerusalem after their fund ran out?
After the Jerusalem believers’ common fund was exhausted and they became destitute, God in His sovereignty provided by moving Gentile believers of Paul’s gospel to give offerings for the poor saints at Jerusalem. Their earlier communal sharing had run out, but God raised up Gentile generosity to meet their need.
Les explains that the early Jerusalem believers sold their lands and houses and put everything into a common kitty, so everybody lived on it and no one lacked. But, as Les teaches, that fund eventually ran out and they became destitute. Had Israel accepted the kingdom, they would not have needed houses and lands, because everything would have been the utopia everyone seeks. But Israel rejected the kingdom, and the kingdom did not come in. So their kitty ran out. Yet God in His sovereignty continued to watch over them by laying it upon the hearts of the Gentile believers of Paul’s gospel to give offerings for the poor saints at Jerusalem.
