Where did Israel actually cross the Red Sea?

Israel crossed at the deeper portion farther down along the Red Sea, in the wilderness, not at the top end where the water is only 18 inches deep amid reeds and populated areas. That location fits the miracle of the waters parting for the people to go through.

Les explains that the top end of the Red Sea was shallow, about 18 inches deep, with reeds, and that area was populated rather than wilderness. The wilderness does not approach until farther down along the Red Sea, so he is convinced Israel had to have crossed at the deeper portion, because going through 18 inches of water would not be much of a miracle. God led the people about through the way of the wilderness of the Red Sea, and the children of Israel went up harnessed. They were encamped clear down on the Red Sea, ready to go through as the waters parted. Les also notes the enormous logistics: three to seven million people, plus livestock, moving and encamped there, with herds of cattle and sheep moving slowly.
