How were the Israelites supposed to eat the Passover in Egypt?
They were to eat it in haste, standing fully dressed: loins girded, shoes on feet, staff in hand. It was roasted with fire, and they ate at the table with all clothes on. Blood was applied to the side posts and lintel.
Les explains that the Israelites were not to eat casually; they were to stand at the table as they ate, with all their clothes on, ready to go. Verse 11 details this: loins girded, shoes on feet, staff in hand, eating in haste. The Passover was roasted with fire. In Egypt they were in huts with a tent or cabin door, and they applied blood to the two side posts and to the lintel. Les is convinced no Jew in Egypt understood what was happening, but God already had the final picture in mind: He was drawing an outline of the cross by placing blood on each side post and the door top, or lintel.
And thus shall ye eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is the LORD’s passover.
