Les Feldick Bible Study

Why did God consistently remind Israel that they were different from other nations?

God consistently reminded Israel they were different so they would know the Lord had put a difference between them and the other nations. This distinction began with Abraham and ran through Israel's history, showing they were not like everybody else on the planet but were a separate people.

Les explains that in the Exodus account God made a clear distinction between Egypt and Israel: while Egypt's firstborn died, against Israel not even a dog would move. Les teaches that this showed God's control over the animal kingdom, and the stated purpose was that Israel might know the Lord puts a difference. He then notes that all through Israel's history, beginning with Abraham, God constantly reminded them they were not like everybody else on the planet but were different. He admits he repeats these things purposefully so they sink in.

Exodus 11:7

But against any of the children of Israel shall not a dog move his tongue, against man or beast: that ye may know how that the LORD doth put a difference between the Egyptians and Israel.
