Why do lost people never experience the benefits of the finished work of Christ?
Lost people never experience the benefits of Christ’s finished work because they never draw on it by believing. They never exercise the faith God demands, and they refuse to believe that everything is already done. Their eternal doom is therefore because of unbelief, not merely because of their sin.
Les teaches that all lost people need to do is draw on the finished work by believing the gospel, but they never do. The reason they never enjoy all the ramifications of that finished work is that they never draw on it by believing or exercise the faith God demands. Les stresses that people go to the lake of fire not because of drunkenness, adultery, gambling, or other sins, but because of unbelief—they refuse to believe everything is already done. He adds that Satan, the powers of Satan, keeps them from seeing this. Satan’s number one modus operandi today is to keep people so busy that their minds are occupied with everything but the things that count, even good activities like kids’ sports, so they have no time to think spiritually. The devil loves it, and by keeping eyes on the material he says, “I’ve got them veiled.”
