Les Feldick Bible Study

What could the law do to an individual, and what was the result if it condemned him?

The law could only condemn the individual, according to the context. If a person was condemned by it, then death was the only alternative. The law is further described as the ministration of condemnation, meaning a condemnation to death. Thus, its outcome was death.

Les explains that all the law could do was condemn the individual; if a person was condemned, then death was the only alternative. He connects this to the ministration of condemnation, which is the law, a condemnation to death. He contrasts this with grace, which takes its place. The law was glorious while operating in the nation of Israel, but its glory is nothing compared to the operation of grace. Les also notes that many today turn their back on grace and try to keep the commandments, which he calls a sad commentary.

2 Corinthians 3:9

For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory.
