Why did God give the Law to the nation of Israel?
God gave the Law to the nation of Israel to prepare them for the coming of their Messiah. Its purpose was preparatory, directing them toward Him. Yet in their unbelief they failed the Law from start to finish. Nevertheless, God did not stop His plan of redemption, carrying it out through Christ’s death and resurrection.
Les explains that the Law was given to Israel to prepare them for the coming of their Messiah, but in their unbelief they failed it from start to finish. However, God did not stop His plan of redemption because of that failure; He carried it out anyway. Christ died, rose from the dead, and revealed to the Apostle Paul the new concept of salvation by faith because of God's grace, with nothing added. When Christ finished the work of redemption by His death, burial, and resurrection, the whole system of Law was done away with and abolished, because now we have something far better. The average Jew remains blinded, with the same veil untaken away in the reading of the Old Testament, which is done away in Christ.
