Les Feldick Bible Study

Why are false teachers described as brute beasts?

False teachers are called brute beasts because they speak evil of what they do not know, ridicule Scripture without studying it, and operate from the old Adamic nature. Their thinking and morals are no higher than the animal world; they live at that level and corrupt themselves.

Les explains that Jude, like 2 Timothy 3, is describing false teachers who hawk an adulterated product. They are filthy dreamers who defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities. They ridicule the truth of Scripture even though they have never studied it, speaking evil of things they know not. What they know comes naturally from the old Adamic side, so they are as brute beasts. Much of society lives at the level of the animals, and these false teachers come from that same low level; their thinking is no higher than the animal world, and in those things they corrupt themselves. They can live on the moral level of an animal and think they are living it up. They are spots in the love feast, feasting with you and feeding themselves without fear.

Jude 1:10

But these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves.
